Menkissoglu Spiroudi Urania

Urania Menkissoglu-Spiroudi is Professor in Pesticide Chemistry and the Director of the Pesticide Science Lab in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

She has long- standing experience in the development and application of analytical methods for the detection and identification of pesticides, other pollutants and bioactive compounds, in various matrices of plant origin and environmental samples (soil, water) using advanced analytical tools. She is currently head of the new core analytical facility established in the School of Agriculture including advanced analytical tools like LC-MS-TOF etc. Her current scientific interests focus on pesticide and biopesticide research, including the isolation, chemical characterization and biological activity evaluation of bioactive molecules, the fate and behavior of pesticides in soil and assessment the effect of synthetic agrochemicals and biopesticides onto non-target soil microorganisms.

She has authored 79 articles in peer-reviewed journals (citation > 1450, h-index: 25) and she has participated in more than 100 Conferences. She is a member of the Committee for Regulation of Pesticides in Greece since 2007, she collaborates with the Official Laboratory of Greek Ministry of Agriculture for pesticide residues control of fruit and vegetables ad has highest knowledge and experience on the EU legislation on pesticides. She has supervised many PhD theses, MSc theses and undergraduate projects of Greek and international students.
