Mission & Vision

KEAGRO AUTh is aiming to link academic society with agricultural production, to give scientific support, to transfer know-how and to initiate and enhance innovative technologies, practices and knowledge of production and processing of agricultural products, in the context of sustainable development. Given that Greece, and in particular Northern Greece and Thessaloniki, hold a key position in the agrifood sector, KEAGRO aims to highlight the role of AUTh and Greece in the modern and rapidly growing environment of this sector.

Briefly, the innovative Actions implemented by the Center include:

• Support of the agri-food chain with certified protocols on agricultural practices of reduced inputs and outputs, aiming at producing quality, safe, standardized and certified agricultural products, enhancing added value and competitiveness.
• Analysis and treatment of food safety problems at distinct levels of the agri-food production-distribution chain ("from field to fork" - "farm to fork").
• Supporting agri-food chain with efficient management and utilization of agricultural waste for the production of added value products and the respective reduction on carbon footprint
• Promoting the exchange of best practices, developing the interoperability of existing and new facilities and resources, strengthening the education for the next generation of researchers
• Transfer of existing and modern know-how in the agrifood industry, especially to Small and Medium Enterprises, for the production of certified, safe, quality food with high competitiveness score.
• Supporting small and medium-sized agricultural and agrifood enterprises in the development of innovative products with improved quality and nutritional characteristics to meet the needs of the modern consumer, specially designed for the category of food for 'personalized nutrition' (eg products without gluten, low glycemic index, high content of vegetable proteins, etc.).
• Training of undergraduate and postgraduate students for efficient farm management and problem solving in the agri-food sector, in collaboration with the relevant Departments and Schools of AUTh, other educational institutions and research institutes in Greece and other countries.
